Solubilizers and Solvents

Solubilizers and solvents are trouble shooters when a fragrance or other hyrophobic ingredients are not easily incorporated into a cosmetic formulation.

Another important function is to reduce the water content in order to make the environment less friendly for microbes to grow. Glycerin e.g. forms water bondages and thus reducing the so called available water for microbes even more as it is not freely available but bonded to the Glycerin molecules.

  • Glycasol (Isopropylidenglycerin) is the new trouble shooter to solubilize as good as ethoxylated solubilizer while being EO-free
  • PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil and Polysorbates are available as well
