Amino Acids
Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins, like collagen and elastin which give skin its structure and elasticity.
Amino acids are used for many centuries in cosmetic formulations because of their antistatic, buffering, hair and skin conditioning properties.
Nowadays Arigin is popular in toothpaste and other oral care products, such as wellknown Elmex trademark who claim pain relief of sensitive teeth.
- Arginine is the most commonly found amino acid in oral care
- Cysteine is one of the two sulfur containing amino acids present in hair keratin. Therefore, cysteine is added to hair treatments resulting in hair damage, such as oxidative hair dyes, straightening or waving products, in order to repair the hair and build up some disulfide bondages.
- Glycine is used as buffering agent and pH adjuster.
